On Tuesday afternoon we did some work on similes and metaphors using 'Flanimals' as inspiration.

By the end we could tell the difference between them!

Can anyone remember?

The rugby player's legs are tree trunks.
This is a metaphor.
You describe something as something else.

To make a simile you compare two things and use like or as.

The shark's teeth are like knives.

similes

similes are what it is LIKE.
example:
his toes are LIKE footballs.




metaphors

metaphors are where you say it IS something but is actually isn't.
example:
his toes ARE footballs.
